“The words of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of the earth, purified seven times.” Psalm 12:6**
I was made to inhale and exhale purity.
What is there of mine, if tried in the furnace of earth, that could stand? But You, oh God, breathe and your very breath is like glacier water dripping down from on high and into my dry spirit.
I worship You, God whose purity is readily available to me.
Your Words, oh Lord, are not stale, but alive. Vibrant. Pure and healing. Meant not to simply reside, but to impart … You. I can carry them. I can speak them. I can believe them. Copyright free, what’s Yours is mine. I get to author beauty when I write Your Word as a prelude and an epilogue to my story. Purity can be all around me, one born impure.
I can eat the scroll and my whole constitution is regenerated. Where else can that which is tainted be made holy — not just restored to zero but advanced to realms where angels reside? Your Word advances.
Though unorthodox, You are pure. You surprise — even shock — but Your Word-made-free always washes. I can’t read, speak or sing You without having my heart expand. Your Word never comes back void, oh God of purity on page and in Person. Every single word is alive with active purity. There is no filler, no fluff, not one part synthetic. Your Word is like liquid gold, I drink and my insides get changed.
I worship You, oh God ingestible. I don’t just observe Your Word, I put it on. I step into it. I cover myself in it. Pure You becomes pure me because what’s Yours is mine and all that is mine can get enveloped in You. Living book, living God-Man, You came to expand and Your Word is my treasure map. Except that the treasure is now. I step into even just one line — I speak it, I pray it and I begin to believe it — and my parched land receives a taste of what it has always craved.
I can’t encounter Your Word — for real — and not be changed. Even just minutes of eyes-wide and heart receiving You and my stone-cold turns flesh. Your pure Words soften; they mold.
I was made for this. I was made for You. I was made to drink of Your page and hide myself in Your person. I was made for Your purity.
**So what do I do with these posts, you ask, other than just read them? First, if you haven’t yet, read: Why I Adore to give you a context for this little space on my blog. (This post also gives context.)
If you are compelled, I invite you to participate. Set up a space and time in your own life to begin adoring. Over laundry or dinner dishes, on your commute to work, or in the wee morning hours — five or ten minutes is a great start. You can use the verse I list here every day or two as a launch pad for your own adoration.
Then practice praise.
Add to my adoration here, by posting a comment with your own words back to God about God …or hide it in your heart. Or wait until a Monday and link up to my adoration posts with your own adoration.
I promise your weary soul won’t regret it.
