Draw me away! Song of Songs 1:4**
I sit in the coffee shop, watching the clock tick closer to my return-to-the-real-world time. For a minute, I turn down the music piping in my ears to listen to the music overhead.
Come away with me she sings, a song from a summer long ago being replayed now. Reminding me.
A few minutes before I leave are a few minutes He preserved. Look up, He says.
Her words echoing His words. Come away with me beckons my response: Draw me away. Your anthem over my day today and my response. Adoption’s whirlwind has left me feeling stretched thin wondering when I will hold my babies in big-girl bodies. And you say now.
Now is as good of a time as any to get swept off my feet. Drawn away. Whisked away by a Man who can turn an uncertain moment into worship.
I adore You, oh God who calls me up and away — any moment. Every moment.
I search out the finish line and You tell me to discover what matters. You. You are found in this moment. You are seeking to redeem even this. Redemption isn’t only for the other side of the promise. It’s for now. You are for now. You’ve stored redemption in this moment and sent me on a treasure hunt.
Seek and find. Me. You say. There is adventure in these concentric circles I feel like I’m walking, and if I wait to adore until the promise is birthed I have missed the mystery of child birthing. I am child being birthed into lover of God.
And it’s at this moment that You offer adoration as my exit from anxiety and into presence. Into You. Into forever change that doesn’t happen at the end of my long, dusty road, but now. When my feet are dirt-streaked and tired, You suggest dancing.
And dance I will. I will dance with my adoration, pouring my body into praise when the circles under my eyes suggest the solution is to sleep until it’s all over.
My moment is now. Your moment is now. Draw me away.
**So what do I do with these posts, you ask, other than just read them? First, if you haven’t yet, read: Why I Adore to give you a context for this little space on my blog. (This post also gives context.)
If you are compelled, I invite you to participate. Set up a space and time in your own life to begin adoring. Over laundry or dinner dishes, on your commute to work, or in the wee morning hours — ten minutes is a great start. You can use the verse I list here every day or two as a launch pad for your own adoration.
Then practice praise.
Add to my adoration here, by posting a comment with your own words back to God about God …or hide it in your heart.
I promise your weary soul won’t regret it.
