..that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. Ephesians 1:17 **
I’m reciting this moments after my feet have found the cold floor because I fell asleep, what felt like minutes earlier, praying this. Training my heart in the interludes between trips up and down the stairs with laundry-filled arms to ask for the light You promise my path.
Then, I remember:
You encourage asking, but I am changed by adoration.
This request turns to opportunity to bless. Bless You, and expand me.
God, who created the foundation of my world, and everything it holds, tells me I can ask Him for His wisdom. You put the prayer in the heart of a man, inscribed it on scrolls that would later find home on my counter. This asking for wisdom was not just for him, it’s for me.
I praise You, God who gives the spirit of wisdom and revelation. I praise You, God who deposits knowledge of You into the hearts of those who ask. I worship You, dynamic, ever-growing-inside-of-me-when-I-ask, God.
You put the ask in me and then when I ask, You respond. I’m undone by this exchange. You don’t crush me with a down-spout my pores can’t receive, You dispense when my heart says “ready.”
You made me to ask. To relate. To beseach. To search. You made me as living, breathing relational daughter — not robot.
And when I ask more, You give more.
Wisdom, revelation, understanding — not assigned, but hand-delivered. Hand-tailored for me, but uncompromising of You.
I adore You, God who made me to ask, made me to grow … deeper in the wisdom, understanding and knowledge of You. I hunger because You made me hungry.
And You feed me what my hunger needs — what my body desires: You.
**So what do I do with these posts, you ask, other than just read them? First, if you haven’t yet, read: Why I Adore to give you a context for this little space on my blog. (This post also gives context.)
If you are compelled, I invite you to participate. Set up a space and time in your own life to begin adoring. Over laundry or dinner dishes, on your commute to work, or in the wee morning hours — ten minutes is a great start. You can use the verse I list here every day or two as a launch pad for your own adoration.
Then practice praise.
Add to my adoration here, by posting a comment with your own words back to God about God …or hide it in your heart.
I promise your weary soul won’t regret it.
